A seemingly Dutch city within North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Münster is a University city filled with bicycles. 20% of its 300,000 inhabitants are students who get to enjoy a city filled with sculptures. Every ten years the city hosts the Skulptur Projekt where the city is dotted with contemporary sculptures. It’s a fantastic way to see the city, learn about its history and appreciate art in context. And that context is rich given its horrific history with Anabaptists, Catholicism, & Nazis, oh my….The city was decimated in the war years, but was rebuilt stone by stone to its former glory; arcades and all. This iron cover celebrates the city’s 1200 year history with an abstracted Rathus surrounded by standard radial markings from the Meier Guss foundry.
The perfect gift for housewarmings, and anniversaries each illustration is initially hand-drawn for precision and then permanently etched into cork. The trivets are .375" thick and 7.25" in diameter with rounded edges. The engraving method has incredible detail and tactility. Fabricated from sustainable Portuguese cork. Designed and packaged in Philadelphia, PA USA.
