Manhole Cover Cork Trivet-Ragusa

$25.00

Home to nearly 75,000 inhabitants, Ragusa is a hilltown in Sicily. The town is a Unesco World Heritage Site given its Baroque architecture which took root after the 1693 earthquake. One prime example is Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista, which begun in 1718 and completed 60 years later. The edifice is one of the most visited structures in the city. And just outsides along the Corso Italia lies this cover which boldly features the Italian Fasces symbol, much to the chagrin of the local citizenry as most Sicilians loathed Mussolini. He was anti-Sicilian and anti-mafia. You don’t do these things without repercussions. Yet, the cover’s symbology works for both faiths in the end.

The perfect gift for housewarmings, and anniversaries each illustration is initially hand-drawn for precision and then permanently etched into cork. The trivets are .375" thick and 7.25" in diameter with rounded edges. The engraving method has incredible detail and tactility. Fabricated from sustainable Portuguese cork. Designed and packaged in Philadelphia, PA USA.
Cork is a natural material, thus rare aberrations within the etching can occur.
