Located in northern Japan, Sapporo is the nation’s fifth-largest city. As the capital of Hokkaido Prefecture and therefore has played host to many international sporting events and is seeking the 2030 winter Olympics. Given that the city of nearly 2 million people hosts an annual snow festival, the selection should be a given. It is snow that adorns this cover, which is found in Odori park, a linear green spanning several blocks. Here 12 snowflakes with five-pointed stars in the center representing the city’s emblem are placed evenly around the cover.
