The city that tops the tourist list, Tangier lies on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Gibraltar Strait. As a perfect harbor, the city grew rising between its two hills with its defensive wall still extant. Tangier began as a Berber port which gave way to Phoenicians, then Romans, and eventually Arabian dynasties. The Portuguese ruled for a couple of centuries and then the Brits had their go from 1661 which slowly petered out to Spanish, Arabic, and French incursions. All of these cultures have left their mark on the city which gives it an irresistible history to absorb. Despite modernization, the urbanscape retains much of its old-world charm. This cover is relatively new and serves the telephone system, which is now most likely servicing internet-based connections. An elaborate symbol occupies the center and is surrounded by its context which is bordered by an expanding 12-sided motif.
