$25.00

Turin, the city on the Po is a major economic-industrial powerhouse. The city is home to FIAT, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, and two football clubs Torino and Juventus FC. Settled over 2200 years ago, the city has seen Taurini, Romans, Ostrogoths, Libertines, and Fascists. It was the latter group that the engineer Ugo Fano joined to extend his foundry business contracts. But as a Jew, his Faustian bargain became apparent when the Nazis forced Mussolini’s closed hand. In 1938, he was stripped of all his work and industry connections due to the Fascist Racial Laws. He was arrested a year later and then murdered in 1944 at Auschwitz. The foundry was consumed by others and yet, this tiny valve cap still exists on the streets of Turin as a reminder of his dedication to and mark on the city he cherished.

The perfect gift for housewarmings, and anniversaries each illustration is initially hand-drawn for precision and then permanently etched into cork. The trivets are .375" thick and 7.25" in diameter with rounded edges. The engraving method has incredible detail and tactility. Fabricated from sustainable Portuguese cork. Designed and packaged in Philadelphia, PA USA.
Cork is a natural material, thus rare aberrations within the etching can occur.
