The former “Jerusalem of the North,” Vilnius is the capital of the Baltic State Lithuania, even though it is located quite far from the sea. WWII decimated the Jewish population of the city leaving Napoleon’s aforementioned moniker meaningless. Even so, the geographical center of Europe became a Unesco heritage site in 1994 due to its historically influential architecture and medieval city plan.
